GERARD TUNNEY : work in progress

This is the most frustrating part of painting because all of a paintings flaws are in evidence and these failings are repeated over and over again without any sign of improvement.I always feel  that painting is a bit like being drunk; confused and unfocused , and the successful development of a  painting is a form of sobering up.The work gradually comes into focus and you eventually establish what it is you are trying to express .Equally annoying is the fact that earlier versions can be  better than later versions and you are not necessarily improving the painting but just changing it and gradually destroying it.
